Teppan steak and Teriyaki chicken with veggies

I was in a crunch for what to make for dinner, i was out all day and had to rush home and make dinner..... i thought quick, and remembered i had frozen rib eye steaks and chicken breast... so i rushed home to defrost them in cool water....and prepared the japanese rice ( rinse out all starches then let soak for 30 mins ) , then i rushed to Ralph's to buy the veggies.... it was awesome. Although my tired husband did help me make the sauces, i for the most part did all the work, although he also babysat the meats.... he's a great help!

This is a Japanese dish akin to the dinners at Benihana's. but we cooked ours on the griddle......... the eletric griddle most people only make pancakes with..

My husband made some amazing dipping sauces which i did not photograph,,,but one is mayo based and spicy and the other is soy sauce based. and he made a great teriyaki sauce from scratch ( we brushed it onto the chicken).. Also not pictured are the veggies, i sliced a pack of white button mushrooms, we used one whole onion and just cut the onion horizontally so that we had natural onion rings....
I also cut the zucchini in half, then cut those halves 6-8 longer pieces each..

Today's lovely breakfast 06/28/10

I finally made it a point to use my potato ricer, i was planning to make potato pancakes but... we put too much milk and sour cream, and used " cooking milk" not fresh milk, so we had the best mashed potaters ever! Along with pancakes, scrambled eggs and some leftover italian sausage as our protein. Also, we had homemade iced coffee.... it was a grand meal, fortunately we only eat breakfast like this maybe once or twice a week.

Shabu Shabu dinner with rice and a dipping sauce.

Here is the bonus pic of me sleeping! Husband took that one this morning...

This dish here is a typical Japanese meal called " Shabu Shabu" or " NABE" .
At home we have an eletric skillet which we set at about 350 degrees or so, i can't remember... and you basically drop in all the raw ingredients into the broth and allow it to all cook together. On the tag you will see all the ingredients which we use typically use.

The broth is made by pouring in, water, sake and adding in " kombu" as well as any other flavorants you like, such as, salmon bits, dried shrimp, dried cuttle fish, canned clams for flavor, maybe even some Mirin, i'm an not exact on measurements because usually i do not start the broth.

Once all is cooked, you eat it with Japanese rice....the dipping sauce is made of : garlic infused soy sauce, Ponzu, Siracha, and Sesame Oil.

Usually the next morning, we make a " porridge" with the leftovers, you heat up this shabu shabu, in a sauce pan, and you cook it with the rice until hot, husband called it " Okayu" . I quite love this meal, but you pretty much should eat it within the next day after making it, since it has different seafoods...
